Trimley St Martin Parish Council Precept for 2026/2027

Parish Council Precept (Council Tax Charge)

Trimley St Martin Parish Council has submitted its precept request to East Suffolk District Council for the year 2026/2027. After much consideration  and careful budgeting, this has been set at £48,000.

The Parish Council are aware this is an increase in previous years (£17.15 per annum per Band D property). There are two main reasons for this increase.

Firstly, since the 2019/2020 budget the Parish Council has subsidised the precept by £39,546.88 to help parishioners with the increase in the cost of living. This is now not sustainable as the Parish Council is using its funds on projects within the Parish.

This leads us on to the second reason. As we are sure you are aware, over the last few months major works have been going on at the Memorial Hall with an extension of a new smaller hall, additional kitchen, additional storage and disabled toilet being built.

This project has been in the pipeline for quite some time and we are thrilled that we are nearing completion. This project has cost approximately £300,000 from the very start to end. Although most of the funds were from Parish Council reserves, grants and Community Infrastructure Levy payments, a small loan of £30,000 was required. A consultation regarding this was held at the Memorial Hall on 1st April 2025, along with an online questionnaire for parishioners to complete. This included information regarding an increase in Council Tax Charge to cover the loan. The Parish Council received no objections for this.

As well as the extension on the Memorial Hall the Parish Council have also held community events including the Trimley St Martin Summer Fete, and a Tabletop Sale. We are also in the middle of planning the Summer Fete for 2026.

Moving forward, the Parish Council are passionate about engaging with the community and completing more works to improve our parish.
